Field Study Labs

There are two small labs that can seat 32 students who can use microscopes to examine and identify what they catch in the stream. Part of the session will be teaching pupils a variety of investigative techniques. Each student will come away with experience of having used a biotic index to estimate water pollution, researched through indexes species and scientific names, use of an Identification Key, completed a sketch and researched some background information on the water invertebrate they caught. All this is modified to accommodate for different age groups. Even KS1 can catch their own stream insects, use a microscope, hand lenses and identify and draw the creature.

In this service we guarantee one adult leader per class of 15. Allow about 50 mins for this service
